A 27-year-old tiler, Qudus Kazeem, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Correctional Center by a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping his employer’s wife and engaging in acts of extortion and theft.
The presiding Magistrate, Mrs Sanusi Adagun, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of the defendant following his arraignment on a four-count charge that included unlawful sexual intercourse, threat to life, obtaining money under presence and stealing.
She further directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward it to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The case was adjourned to December 18 for mention.
Earlier the prosecutor, Inspector Reuben Solomon, informed the court that the alleged offences happened on December 2022 at No. 8/10 Kola John, off Feyintola Giwa Street, Surulere, Lagos.
According to Solomon, the defendant, who had been hired to lay tiles in the home of Mr. Damilare Gbadamosi, allegedly abandoned his work and sexually assaulted Gbadamosi’s wife.
Solomon added that the defendant threatened to ruin the victim’s marriage unless she sent him money or continued to have sexual relations with him.
The prosecutor stated that Kazeem’s actions violated Sections 56 (1) (a), 260, 280, and 314 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Adagun stressed the need for legal guidance from the DPP before proceeding with the case, given the gravity of the charges, adding that Kazeem will remain in custody at the Ikoyi Correctional Center pending further directives.
