Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation Of 3 INEC RECs

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm three nominees as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, after reading the president’s letter during Tuesday’s plenary, referred the nominees to the Senate Committee on INEC for evaluation and recommendation.

This came two weeks after President Tinubu nominated Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a lawyer, as the REC for Ondo State.

Tinubu had also nominated Abdulrazak Tukur as INEC’s National Commissioner representing the North West.

In January, the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, swore in Etekamba Udo Umoren as Resident Electoral Commissioner and deployed him to Delta State.

The electoral body, in December 2023, swore in nine out of the 10 RECs screened and confirmed by the National Assembly to fill vacancies across different states.
