President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the graduating students of Admiralty University, Ibusa Delta state to be agents of positive change in the society by building knowledge and also contributing to the growth and development of the nation.
The president who gave the charge at the 3rd convocation ceremony of the university, urged them to remember that they are the future leaders of the nation.
The President, who was represented by the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, Prof. Rim-Rukeh Akpofure, commended the university for being focused and not allowing distortion in it academics programmes.
He lauded the university for it move to include additional courses of engineering and Maritime studies.
The President, while congratulating the graduating students for successfully attaining a remarkable milestone, urged them to remember that they are the future leaders and contribute positively to the society.
The President hinted that NEFUND programme was established to provide financial support for students in tertiary education.
He disclosed that over 70 billions has already been prepared for payment for students and their institution through the NEFUND initiative programme.
The President, however, appealed to the beneficiaries to be honest and committed in their repayment to make NEFUND sustainable
Mr. President assured that his administration will do everything possible to assist NEFUND to achieve it mandate of making tertiary education more accessible to all Nigerians.
Also, Delta State Governor, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori, who was represented by the commissioner for higher education, prof. Johnbull Tonukari, congratulated the outgoing students for their successes in their various fields of study.
Governor Oborewori noted that the Delta state government gives priority to human capital development and promised to tighten her partnership with the university for growth and development of the state.
Oborevwori commended the federal government for taking over the university and providing the institution with federal might for the growth and advancement which are already viable.
Earlier in his address, the Acting Vice Chancellor, of Admiralty University, Prof. Professor Dili Ofuokwu, highlighted the vision of the institution for the future.
Prof. Ofuokwu also highlighted the recent visit by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for resource inspection and it positive evaluation programmes such as Nautical Sciences, Engineering disciplines, Naval Architecture, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Petroleum Engineering paves the way for program approvals, further expanding ADUN’s academic offerings.
He explained that out of 115 candidates offered admission then, only 100 of them graduated with bachelor degrees, having met the necessary requirements of the institution
Vice Chancellor expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the federal government, Delta state Government and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for their invaluable support, and significant contribution.
