As part of efforts to contribute to statistical development in education across board, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) with support from the World Bank has designed a pilot programme using technology to strengthen the collation, validation and dissemination of administrative statistics across Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria
Already 15, MDAs have been selected for the pilot phase even as Education Statistics have been chosen as one of the focus areas in the pilot.
The Statistician – General of the Federation, Mr Samiu Adeyemi Adeniran disclosed this yesterday in a keynote address at the celebration of the African Statistics Day held in Abuja.
Adeniran said that the theme of the celebration: “Supporting education by Modernizing the production of Fit- For- purpose Statistics” is a clear reminder of one of the major issues facing the African Statistical System and by extension, the global system, particularly in the light of recent changes and advancements in the data ecosystem which is being driven by the technology
He explained that all of this is in a bid to ensure that it provides the right data which is a critical tool for development to all users in a timely manner and in a way is useful, suited to every need.
He further stated that the NBS have similarly supported several programmes in the development of the education sector stressing, “One of such is the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA), under this programme, NBS working with the Federal Ministry of Education and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) provided very useful information to support the programme
He assured that going forward, the NBS will begin a tradition of recognizing eminent Nigerians who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of statistics in and outside the country.
