Ahead of the 2025 fiscal year, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) on Friday in Abuja held strategic engagements with security and tax enforcement experts for more effective ways of curbing tax evasion.
Speaking to journalists at the sideline of the strategic parley, the Director of Department of Security, Safety and Fleet Management in the revenue-generating agency, Mr. Gregory Wilfred Asuquo, said the collaborative strategic parley with security experts was geared towards more effective ways of curbing tax evasion.
The parley, according to him, “centres on operational metrics such as intelligence or information-sharing, data collection and an effective central technical unit for tracking of tax evaders.”
He said further that other critical components of the collaborative engagement were tax enforcement against evaders, self assessment mechanism for the operational strategies, and others.
Explaining to journalists what the collaborative engagement entails, the FIRS Director of the Department of Tax Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Garba Muazu, said it “entails proffering more effective ways of curbing tax evasion on one hand and generating higher revenues on the other hand.”
He said severally the chairman of the FIRS, Zacch Adedeji, had said the agency would surpass the N19.4 trillion revenue target for 2024.
“The revenue target for 2025 will be higher than that of 2024, with the required overhauling of strategies for revenue-generation and against tax evasion, which the collaborative engagement aims to achieve,” he said.
