On Christmas day, bomb blast rocked Borno, killing mourners at a condolence venue in Daliri village in the outskirts of Maiduguri city.
The bomb blast occurred on a day when the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, was in Maiduguri to celebrate the 2024 Christmas with troops, including the wounded soldiers at a luncheon jointly organised by the Theater Command Headquarters, Maiduguri and 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maimamalari Cantonment, Maiduguri at the 7 Division Sports Center Maiduguri.
The Boko Haram insurgents redoubled their efforts despite military presence and re-strategised their operations.
Lt. General Oluyede had vowed to counter the attacks of insurgents on innocent citizens and communities.
A bomb attack was reported in Dalori, but normalcy has since returned to the area. A Boko Haram bomber reportedly detonated a bomb, killing at least two people in Dalori near a gathering of mourners.
The bomber reportedly sneaked into a group of mourners at Dalori, near Maiduguri Wednesday and detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices.
It was gathered that the residents were mourning the death of one of them killed in an attack on the town a day earlier.
Two other people were reportedly injured in the first attack that happened Tuesday which the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Borno state Command, Nahum Daso, had earlier confirmed to newsmen.
He said security agencies have restored normalcy to the area.
“And again a bomb attack was reported in Dalori but normalcy has returned to the area,” he said.
The Dalori incident occurred a day after the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) carried out multiple drone attacks on a military location at Wajiroko, a remote area in Damboa local government, Borno state.
While in a similar development, gunmen suspected to be members of ISWAP terrorists had launched a coordinated attack on the military position in Wajiroko with various types of firearms at about 11:30 pm on Tuesday.
The military troops in the area first repelled the attack as the terrorists were in disarray and forced to withdraw.
However, the terrorists returned shortly with multiple drones and locally fabricated grenades to attack the military base. Sources said five soldiers’ sustained injuries while military equipment was damaged.
The military is yet to officially confirm the attack.
