The speculation began after a December 22 report from Daily Mail alleged that the couple planned a lavish secret wedding at Kevin Costner’s sprawling 160-acre Dunbar Ranch, scheduled for December 28.
The Daily Mail claimed to have insider sources confirming the details, and the story was picked up by multiple outlets. However, Bezos took to X (formerly Twitter) to debunk the claims, asserting that not only was the wedding price tag false but that no such nuptials were happening next weekend.
Responding to the report, Bezos reposted a comment from fellow billionaire Bill Ackman, who had earlier dismissed the story as “not credible.” Bezos added his own emphatic denial, writing
“Furthermore, this whole thing is completely false—none of this is happening. The old adage ‘don’t believe everything you read’ is even more true today than it ever has been.”
The 60-year-old Amazon founder also took a broader jab at misinformation online, warning followers to be cautious about what they believe. “Now lies can get ALL the way around the world before the truth can get its pants on,” Bezos wrote.
Lauren Sanchez, who got engaged to Bezos in May 2023, also addressed the rumors. She shared Bezos’ X post on her Instagram Stories alongside a screenshot of the New York Post article perpetuating the rumor, writing “Not true” in bold letters.
Sanchez has previously spoken about her excitement for their upcoming wedding, revealing in interviews that she’s been using a Pinterest board for wedding inspiration like “every other bride.” However, neither she nor Bezos has confirmed a wedding date.
Jeff Bezos didn’t stop at denying the rumors—he questioned the integrity of media outlets that amplified the false story. “Will be interesting to see if all the outlets that ‘covered’ and re-reported on this issue a correction when it comes and goes and doesn’t happen,” he remarked.
