Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has granted clemency to Segun Olowookere, who was sentenced to death, and 52 other convicts.
Segun Olowookere and Sunday Morakinyo were, 14 years ago, sentenced to death for conspiracy to commit felony to wit armed robbery.
However, the governor, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed on Thursday pardoned both Olowookere and Morakinyo on the ground of good behaviours.
While Tunde Olapade and Demola Odeyemi made the list of the four convict pardoned under capital offence, the governor granted that six convicts under capital offence be released on health ground and commutted the death sentence of one convict to 15 years imprisonment after spending 10 years behind bars.
Governor Adeleke also pardoned 12 persons convicted of simple offences, while 30 on similar offences were released from the custody.
“Now know ye therefore that, I Senator Ademola Jackson Adeleke, the Governor of Osun State of Nigeria, in exercise of the power conferred on me by paragraph (a), (c) and (d) of subsection (i) of section 212 of the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended), I am pleased to extend my grace and mercy unto the said inmates,” the statement reads in part.
