Three Years After His TV Show Failed, Star Wars Finally Sets Up A Way To Redeem Boba Fett

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 5

I think Star Wars has just set up a really cool way to redeem Boba Fett, three years after his controversial series. As was seen in The Book of Boba Fett, the titular and legendary bounty hunter seemingly chose to leave his bounty hunter career behind in favor of becoming Tatooine’s new daimyo, based out of the place that once belonged to the late Jabba the Hutt. However, Star Wars’ newest show may have just set up a far better future for Fett.

As seen in Skeleton Crew episode 5, Jude Law’s Jod Na Nawood encounters an old bounty hunter associate while he and the lost kids from At Attin are searching for the secret lair of pirate captain Tak Rennod that’s buried below Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa on the planet Lanupa. As such, this bounty hunter made a couple of notable digs at the Bounty Hunters’ Guild. To that end, I do think that the future of the Guild could involve Boba Fett himself, which could redeem his controversial Star Wars show three years later.

Skeleton Crew’s New Bounty Hunter Is Working For A “Private Client”

Pokkit Isn’t Interested In Working for The Guild

Having known Jod Na Nawood as “Dash Zentin”, the bounty hunter named Pokkit is surprised to see her former associate who once left her “drowning in a pit of leeches“. However, she also reveals that she no longer works for the Bounty Hunters’ Guild and its “low-rent jobs”. Instead, she’s now working for a private client, one that seems to pay her quite well, seeing how she’s taking time off in an expensive luxury spa in this new episode of Skeleton Crew.

Pokkit is played by Kelly Macdonald, who voiced Merida in Disney and Pixar’s Brave.

Pokkit ends up reporting Jod to Brutus to claim the bounty on Nawood’s head, though it’s notable that she’s left the Guild behind. She’s certainly not the only one to have done so in the New Republic Era either, as Din Djarin is now an independent contractor working with the New Republic’s Adelphi Rangers. Even Greef Karga left the Guild in favor of becoming Nevarro’s magistrate once more. Combined with the fact that the Guild has started hiring multiple hunters for the same job amid a galactic recession, all signs point to the Bounty Hunters’ Guild being on the verge of collapse.

Could Boba Fett Be Setting Up A Rival Guild?

A New Guild For A New Star Wars Era

If the established Bounty Hunters’ Guild is indeed on the verge of falling apart, it could become a prime opportunity for someone like Boba Fett to step in. Using his resources as a daimyo on Tatooine, Boba Fett could create a new bounty-hunting guild to replace the old one, one that pays better and holds more respect for its members. By all accounts, it certainly feels like it could be more of an on-brand future for the legendary bounty hunter, rather than simply living happily ever after as Mos Espa’s glorified mayor.

Star Wars now has an impressive array of various live-action TV shows, but several of these ideas were originally meant to hit the big screen.

There’s a lot of narrative potential behind Boba Fett creating a rival guild in Star Wars’ future. After all, one can imagine the existing Bounty Hunters’ Guild wouldn’t just give up without a fight, even if it is collapsing. This could lead to a full-on bounty hunter war, one that has all the makings for a very exciting and dynamic Book of Boba Fett Season 2 featuring hunters new and old, while also keeping Boba Fett front and center (unlike the first season when he was very much upstaged by Din and Grogu).

I’d Love To See Star Wars Give Boba Fett This Future

A Much Cooler Fate That Could Redeem His Show’s Ending

Boba Fett standing next to Fennec Shand in the Book of Boba Fett

Boba Fett creating a new guild feels like an epic next step, one that could redeem the ending of his show, which I found to be pretty lackluster and disappointing for one of my favorite Star Wars characters. It would also tie nicely into Fett’s history in the non-canon Legends, where Fett did indeed create a rift in the Guild, kick-starting some reform and a full-on bounty hunter war during the original trilogy. I need Boba Fett to return in a way that’s far more satisfying than what his show provided three years ago. This feels like the most exciting way for Star Wars to do it.
