Amy Rose's Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Role Shouldn't Follow Her Video Game Introduction

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Sonic the Hedgehog 3!

Amy Rose is set to play a big role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 after making her debut in Sonic the Hedgehog 3′s post-credits scene, but the upcoming story shouldn’t follow her video game introduction. Amy Rose is one of the most significant characters in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with her being the video game series’ main female protagonist as well as the main love interest of Sonic. Because of this, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will have to make sure it doesn’t fall into the trap of her video game debut, but Sonic the Hedgehog 3 proves it is on the right track.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene continued a trend of the live-action movie series, with it introducing another character who will presumably play a major role in the upcoming fourth film. This time, Sonic accidentally runs all the way to New York, where he is attacked by Metal Sonic in a wooded area. Eventually, Sonic realizes that he has more than one threat, with him actually being surprised by an entire army of Metal Sonics. Luckily, Amy Rose drops from the sky to protect Sonic, with her saving him by smashing the robots.

Amy Rose Was A Damsel In Distress In Her Sonic Video Game Debut

And Sonic 4 Doesn’t Need To Repeat This

Amy Rose made her Sonic the Hedgehog debut in Sonic CD, with this being the first time that the iconic character was seen. However, her role in her debut title isn’t the character’s best, with her simply being a damsel in distress. After learning that Amy is Sonic’s self-proclaimed girlfriend, Doctor Robotnik sends Metal Sonic to kidnap her, hopefully luring Sonic into one of his traps. Sonic eventually saves Amy and defeats Robotnik, highlighting how her story isn’t all that special, especially considering who the character has become since.

Since Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene introduces Amy Rose and Metal Sonic, who both first appeared in Sonic CD, it makes sense that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will adapt Sonic CD‘s story. While this is exciting for some reasons, with it meaning that time travel could possibly be introduced in the upcoming film, it does have fans a little worried about Amy’s role in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

5 Theories For How Jim Carrey Can Still Return For Sonic The Hedgehog 4

Considering Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s ending, there are a few different ways in which Jim Carrey’s Doctor Robotnik could return in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Amy Rose became an entirely different character in the Sonic Adventure games and beyond, with her being a hero in her own right rather than a mere damsel in distress. In almost every appearance after Sonic CD, Amy Rose was known for her short-temper and massive hammer, with her being a huge threat to anyone who came her way. On top of that, Amy became more protective of Sonic than he was of her, with her constantly watching out for the blue blur. Thus, having Amy be a damsel in distress would be a step back, especially for Sonic the Hedgehog‘s main female protagonist.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Already Proved Amy Rose Isn’t Someone Who Needs Saving

She Is The One Who Saved Sonic

Having Amy Rose be a damsel in distress in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 wouldn’t make any sense, as Sonic the Hedgehog 3‘s post-credits scene proved that Amy Rose isn’t someone who needs saving. In the post-credits scene, Amy is the one who saves Sonic, with her jumping out of nowhere and using her hammer to save Sonic from the surprise attack. The Metal Sonics were almost able to overwhelm Sonic, and they probably would have if it weren’t for Amy, with her power over the Metal Sonics showing how capable of a fighter she is.

While Sonic will probably be faster than Amy, it seems likely that she will be a better fighter than Sonic, making her an even stronger character. The post-credits scene implies that Amy has some sort of history fighting the Metal Sonics, with her knowing to be there when they attacked the real Sonic. Amy Rose will most likely be an invaluable asset to Team Sonic in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and reverting her back to her damsel in distress status from Sonic CD would be a huge mistake based on her debut in the post-credits scene.

Amy Rose Deserves A Major Heroic Role In Sonic The Hedgehog 4

She Doesn’t Need To Be Sidelined

Since Amy Rose will likely appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, she deserves a major heroic role right alongside Sonic. Having Amy Rose be a supporting character who is sidelined in favor of a new Sonic the Hedgehog villain would be a waste, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 needs to make sure she has a lot of time in the spotlight. While she will probably get more characterization than Metal Sonic, it is always possible that another new character could appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, with this new story completely overshadowing Amy.

5 Predictions For Sonic The Hedgehog 4’s Post-Credits Scene Character After Sonic 3’s Amy Rose Reveal

Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s post-credits scene introduces two new characters, and Sonic the Hedgehog 4 can continue this character introduction trend.

This is a complaint that many fans had with Sonic the Hedgehog 2, as it can be argued that this is what happened to Tails. While Tails was set up in the original Sonic the Hedgehog‘s post-credits scene, he played a pretty small role in the second film, with him just being there to help Sonic. Instead, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 gave Knuckles more focus, with him being the newcomer who drove the story and had a major character arc. Amy Rose needs to be the one driving the story in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, establishing her as an integral part of the live-action movie series.

How Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Sets Up Amy Rose’s Sonic 4 Role

She Could Join Team Sonic

Although there are still a lot of questions about Sonic the Hedgehog 4‘s story, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already set up Amy Rose’s role in the next film. Since Amy saved Sonic from the Metal Sonic army, it seems that she will be the one introducing Team Sonic to this new threat. She probably has some sort of connection to the Metal Sonic army or the villain who is controlling him, with this being why she was there to save Sonic. This means that she will probably join Team Sonic during the film, with her being the newest alien hero in the series.

One popular theory states that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 could feature time travel based on Sonic CD‘s story, meaning that Amy could be from the future. A hypothetical story in which Amy Rose is from a post-apocalyptic future run by Eggman Nega and the Metal Sonics would be incredibly exciting, with her going back in time to save Sonic from a time-traveling Metal Sonic threat. However, this is just a theory, and there are all kinds of possibilities for Amy’s new story after her Sonic the Hedgehog 3 debut.
