The second season of Sex and the City revival And Just Like That was a smashing success, and here’s all the season 3 news teasing what awaits when Carrie returns. The revival was originally supposed to be a miniseries before it was renewed for a second season, but the Sex and the City continuation has seemingly become the second leg of the franchise. And Just Like That follows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate life in New York City in their 50s, dealing with grief, complex friendships, sexuality, and gender.

From the start, And Just Like That differed from HBO’s Sex and the City. Carrie’s main love interest Mr. Big (Chris Noth) died in the first episode, and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) never appeared on screen due to Kim Cattrall initially refusing to return. Viewership made up for the less-than-desirable reviews, and AJLT was the most-streamed show on HBO Max at the time. As a result, there’s already And Just Like That season 3 news, showing that Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte have many more adventures ahead of them as they navigate life, love, loss, and everything in between.

As the third season of the series continues to take shape, the latest news confirms a few new names have joined And Just Like That. Set to return as Aiden’s (John Corbett) ex-wife, Kathy, Rosemarie DeWitt will be a part of the third season. Screen and stage legend Patti LuPone (Agatha All Along) will play an as-yet-undisclosed role in season 3 as well, though it’s known she will have an arc throughout the season. Finally, Bob’s Burgers and What We Do in the Shadows star Kristen Schaal will also play an unknown role.

HBO Was Quick To Renew The Revival Series

And Just Like That season 3 is confirmed, as the show was renewed immediately after the And Just Like That season 2 finale in August 2023. While Max generally does not make its viewership public knowledge, And Just Like That’s viewership was more than Max could have asked for. As a result, season 3 is on its way.

The Hollywood strikes are the most likely culprit for the delay and shows like And Just Like That were unable to proceed during the work stoppage.

Unfortunately for fans of Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and the rest, the Sex and the City revival won’t be returning to Max until 2025. There was a 16-month gap between the first and second seasons of the series, and it isn’t unusual for seasons to take a long time. The Hollywood strikes are the most likely culprit for the delay and shows like And Just Like That were unable to proceed during the work stoppage.

The Hollywood strikes consisted of the WGA strike (May-September 2023) and the SAG-AFTRA strike (July-November 2023) which saw many writers and actors demand fair working conditions and pay.

Because the main cast all came back for season 2, it can be assumed that Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis will return as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte respectively. It is unclear if Kim Cattrall will return, but Cattrall’s And Just Like That cameo as Samantha was well-received, so it’s possible that the actress could return in And Just Like That season 3. The only known change in the cast is the departure of the controversial Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), and Karen Pittman will also not return as Dr. Nya Wallace.

Sara Ramirez’s Che Diaz departed season 3 naturally, with her character’s storyline concluding logically during And Just Like That season 2.

Besides a host of returning character from all corners of the Sex in the City franchise, season 3 of And Just Like That has added a slew of new names too. Comic actor Rosie O’Donnell has joined the cast as Mary, while Law and Order alum Mehcad Brooks is set to play an unknown character. Jonathan Cake and Logan Marshall-Green will also play as-yet-unknown characters in season 3, and they’ll be joined by Patti LuPone, whose unnamed character will have a season 3 arc. Kristen Schaal has also been cast in season 3, but nothing is known about her role.
