Tension gripped the residents and passersby at the Atikankan area in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital Thursday as the men of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and the commercial motorcycle riders popularly called “Okada Riders” engaged in violent clash over death of a motorcycle ticketing officer.
The clash, it was learnt, started in the early hours of the morning and both the OPC and the motorcycle riders engaged one another with dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses, knives, among others.
An eyewitness account who did not want his name mentioned, explained that trouble started when the motorcycle riders accused the OPC men of being responsible for the death of their ticketing officer who normally stay by the OPC office near Atikankan area of Ado- Ekiti.
The violence having lasted for more than two hours, could still not let the number of those wounded known from both parties.
As at the time of filing this report, men of the Police Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has been drafted to the scene with a view to restoring law and order.
Meanwhile, the Rapid Response Squad has arrested criminal suspects numbering about six.
However, the Police spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday said the command acted on a distress call from the area.
