WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for Dexter: Original Sin episode 4.
The Dexter prequel series Dexter: Original Sin is already setting up one of the biggest revealed tragedies in the entirety of Dexter’s lore. Developed by New Blood creator Clyde Phillips, the prequel series chronicles a post-college Dexter as he embraces his “dark passenger” through the guidance and teachings of his adopted father, Harry. Dexter implements Harry’s code to satisfy his violent urges while making sure never to get caught. The cast of Dexter: Original Sin is led by Patrick Gibson as the new titular protagonist alongside newcomers Molly Brown, Christian Slater, Patrick Dempsey, and Sarah Michelle Gellar.
After Michael C. Hall reprised his iconic role as the charismatic vigilante serial killer in 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, he returns as Dexter’s inner voice and narrator in the prequel series. The series takes place in Miami in 1991 as Dexter begins his career at Miami Metro PD. Dexter: Original Sin will likely cover a few anticipated kills that are already established in Dexter’s lore. Another upcoming Dexter series, Dexter: Resurrection, is expected to be released in the summer of 2025 with Hall also slated to return. Dexter: Original Sin could be the first of several new Dexter spin-offs and sequel series in the coming years.
New episodes of Dexter: Original Sin release every Friday exclusively on Paramount+.
Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Is Tragically Building Up To Harry Morgan’s Suicide
The truth about Harry’s death was revealed in the original series
Dexter: Original Sin season 1 is expected to build up to the eventual death of Harry Morgan, which could very well happen before the end of the first season. Dexter and his adoptive sister Deb always thought that Harry had died from heart disease. It wasn’t until much later that they found out that he died by suicide after seeing Dexter dismember one of his victims. Since viewers do not see all the moments that build up to that decision in the original show, Dexter: Original Sin gradually builds up to that tragic moment and has already shown signs of Harry’s inner turmoil and instability.

Dexter: Original Sin Episode 4 Review – Dexter’s First Fatal Mistake Brings With It A Heart-Stopping Cliffhanger Twist
Dexter: Original Sin episode 4 extends episode 3’s great momentum, introducing Dexter’s third target and his first major rookie mistake.
In season 8 of the original Dexter series, it was implied that Harry’s old partner Davey Sanchez was killed by a criminal who walked free named Juan Ryness. Harry witnessed Dexter dismembering Juan Ryness, who Dexter murdered to make things right after he killed Davey Sanchez. This is known to be the key incident that ends up leading Harry to die by suicide. Although Dexter and Deb believed that Harry died from heart failure, he actually could not handle the grim reality of Dexter murdering people, even when they aligned with the code. Harry overdosed on his heart medication, which prompted his death.
Why Harry Let Dexter & Debra Believe That He Died From Heart Disease For So Many Years
He likley didn’t want Dexter to know it had anything to do with him
It was established early on in Dexter: Original Sin that Harry had heart issues that required him to be hospitalized, which introduced Dexter to his first kill, Nurse Mary. This will likely end up being a strong cover for Harry’s eventual death, as it will be framed as an accidental overdose rather than a suicide. Harry appears to be silently struggling, not only because of his complex issues with Dexter raising a budding vigilante serial killer but also because of a major new detail involving his biological son, Junior. As revealed in the Original Sin premiere, Harry lost a young son who drowned in the family pool while he watched a football game.

What Happened To Mad-Dog In Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 Episode 4โs Ending? Is He Alive?
Dexter: Original Sin’s episode 4, “Fender Bender,” shows Dexter with his first two kills under his belt takingย aim at an ex-hitman named Mad-Dog.
Harry also battles with the grief of losing his wife, Doris, to cancer, which happens not long before Original Sin takes place. These two enormous deaths, combined with the guilt that Harry carries for harboring Dexter’s dark secrets and cheating on his wife with Dexter’s mom, Laura Moser, place an enormous burden on Harry’s soul. Clearly, Harry could not simply explain all this to Dexter or Debra and didn’t have anyone he could really talk to, especially if his partner Bobby Watt, who appears to be the replacement character for Davey Sanchez, also gets murdered. Harry has been surrounded by tragic deaths for most of his adult life and likely wanted to leave Dexter and Deb out of it.
When Will Harry Morgan Die In Dexter: Original Sin?
It could be as soon as the season 1 finale
Based on the trajectory of Dexter: Original Sin thus far, Harry will likely be the season 1 finale. The original title of the episode was “Code Blues” – which hints at the hospital term associated with the way that Dexter and Deb thought Harry died. The episode title, however, has been changed to “Born This Way” as of the time of writing. Dexter’s narration also revealed that Harry lived for about another year after his first kill, which might line up with the finale’s timeline. A clear indicator that Harry Morgan’s end is near in Dexter: Original Sin will be if Bobby Watt is killed and his killer walks free.
Dexter: Original Sin explores the origins of Dexter Morgan as he transitions from student to serial killer in 1991 Miami. Guided by his father, Dexter channels his dark urges through a moral code while starting a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
