season 2 gets a new production update, confirming that filming has been delayed due to the California wildfires. Based on the beloved video game franchise of the same name, the Prime Video series premiered last year, becoming a major viewership hit as it chronicled Lucy’s (Ella Purnell) journey across a post-apocalyptic United States. Fallout season 2 was promptly confirmed following season 1’s success, with filming beginning in November 2024.

Deadline now shares a disappointing update regarding Fallout season 2, revealing that the show has had to push back the resumption of filming after a holiday break. The series was set to pick things back up on Wednesday in Santa Clarita, but this date has tentatively been moved to Friday due to the wildfires that are currently raging throughout parts of Southern California. It sounds like there’s a possibility that it will be pushed back further depending on the status of the fires, which began on Tuesday and spread quickly due to a windstorm in the area.

NCIS is another show filming in Santa Clarita, but it has not yet had its production delayed.

In the grand scheme of things, this delay may not have a major impact on Fallout season 2, but this does sound like a situation that could change rapidly if the fires can’t be brought under control. The fires have now torn through areas like the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, and Sylmar, with at least 30,000 people having to evacuate the area. Santa Clarita is located just north of the fire in Sylmar, but has so far remained unaffected.

A delay to this return date for safety reasons, ultimately, isn’t a big deal.

The location of New Vegas, which features prominently in the video games, is set to play an important role in Fallout season 2.

Though video game adaptations have been very hit or miss over the past few decades, showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner have proven themselves more than up to the task of bringing the world of Fallout to life. Season 2, if it takes after season 1, will certainly be worth the wait.
