The resident pastor of ECWA Goodnews Church, Upper Luggere Jimata – Yola, Rev. Maxwell Kuri ,has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ,36 state governors and government at all levels to as a matter of urgency implement policies and programmes that will promote economic growth, create jobs and reduce poverty. He said government at all levels should develop programmes aimed at supporting local businesses and attract foreign investments to stimulate development.
He also called on government at all levels to invest in education and health care, taking into consideration that these sectors are critical to the development and well-being of the citizens, with a strong appeal on religious leaders in the country, across all faiths to always preach and promote peace and unity.
He made the call Sunday in Yola,in his 2025 New Year speech, delivered at the church premises.
He expressed concerns over socio-economic hardships faced by Nigerians among many other challenges bedeviling the country, adding that, the Christian community is particularly vulnerable and urged believers to be vigilant and prayerful given the alarming rate of violence, kidnappings and persecution in the country .
He advocated for religious freedom, and engagement in peace- building initiatives that promote interfaith dialogue and understanding with Muslims and other faith groups that can help build bridges and promote peace in communities.
He further commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his giant strides in infrastructural development, education, health, agriculture and security which have gone a long way in reducing the menace of shilla boys and kidnappers in the state.
He also hailed the governor for prompt payment of salaries, implementation of free education policy and payment of scholarships among many other achievements.
