From is a show filled with mystery and intrigue, which naturally leads to many theories. Since the first episode was released in 2022, there have been numerous theories about what the monsters are, what Town is, why From‘s cast of characters are trapped there, and if there is any way to escape the Town. While many of the overarching mysteries remain, From season 3’s ending did answer several significant questions, with some of the answers confirming or disproving certain theories.
Many of the theories for From season 4’s story revolve around Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) and the Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes). Julie’s time-travel abilities, which her brother Ethan Matthews (Simon Webster) refers to as being a story walker, open up numerous possibilities for her in season 4. The introduction of the villainous Man in Yellow also opens up many new narrative opportunities. The best season 4 theories are the ones that seem plausible while also contributing to the show’s characters, plot, and themes.

This Could Explain The Cicada Noises
A dark From theory suggests that Randall (A.J. Simmons) will become the Man in Yellow. The theory points to the physical similarities that the two characters have, the ongoing cicada noises that only Randall hears, and how the show is seemingly saving him for a larger purpose. The cicada noises could be the Town’s way of pushing Randall further and further away from his humanity as it reshapes him into becoming the Man in Yellow. Cicadas often symbolize rebirth, foreshadowing that Randall will be reborn as the menacing individual who killed Jim Matthews (Eion Bailey) in season 3.

Now that From has introduced the villainous Man in Yellow, one of the series’ biggest mysteries is unraveling the identity of this character.
With Randall being saved from the music box, being mauled by the monsters in From season 3, episode 4, and then saved from using a defibrillator on himself at the end of season 3, the show continues to save his life. While he definitely has a larger purpose and is being saved for a reason that involves the cicada noises, becoming the Man in Yellow does seem like a bit of a stretch. The Man in Yellow does not have Randall’s scar and seems like an evil entity who has existed in the Town long before Randall’s arrival.

From’s Town Is A Parallel Version Of Camden, Maine
Camden May Have More Of A Role To Play
A Reddit theory posits that the Town could be a parallel version of Camden, Maine. After the Boy in White (Vox Smith) pushes Tabitha out of the lighthouse during From season 2’s ending, she wakes up in Camden. It later seemed that this happened so she could meet Henry Kavanaugh (Robert Joy), which would help get her closer to remembering her past life as Miranda (Sarah Booth). This theory argues that the Town’s connection goes beyond the Kavanaugh family and helping Tabitha remember.
There may be more to the Town’s Camden connection that can be revealed in season 4. Being a parallel version of Camden does seem very similar to the Upside Down being a parallel universe version of Hawkins, Indiana in Netflix’s Stranger Things. The Town has a long history that predates the Kavanaugh family, with its existence and purpose already set in motion before the Camden residents became trapped.

This Could Explain The Cromenockle Story’s Parallels With The Town
Ethan seems to have a unique understanding of the Town and its supernatural elements. Much of his understanding comes from a fictional children’s book called Flight of the Cromenockle by Kay Dillon. A Reddit theory discusses whether it might be Julie who wrote Flight of the Cromenockle in the first place. Julie being a story walker means she can time travel, but she cannot change the past. If Julie is always the one who wrote the book, then nothing needs to change. She could have written the book knowing that it would guide Ethan.
This would also require Julie’s time travel to take her outside the Town, but this may be possible given that Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) and Jade Herrera (David Alpay) had lives outside the Town before returning as reincarnated versions of their past selves.
The significance of the Cromenockle story still feels like it needs to be further explored, and it could tie into the show’s time travel. The Man In Yellow Will Pose As A Newcomer In From Season 4
He Has An Advantage That The Monsters Don’t Have
According to this Reddit theory, the Man in Yellow could pretend that he is a newly trapped resident in From season 4. The theory points out that the only characters who are confirmed to know about the Man in Yellow are Jim, who is now dead, and a future version of time-traveling Julie. Given that no one else knows about him in the present, he could infiltrate the Townspeople, gain their trust, and make it seem like he is one of them, only to sabotage them from within. Unlike the regular monsters, he can be outside during the day.
This could be a compelling way to flesh out the Man in Yellow, and it would be a new means of devastating the residents. However, there have already been theories about other characters, including Tillie (Deborah Grover), being spies for the monsters, and none of these theories ever panned out. The monsters and the Town itself have enough ways to terrorize and torture the residents without needing to infiltrate them. The Man in Yellow already knew a great deal about Jim and Tabitha as well, meaning he does not have to pretend to be a resident to gather information.

The meaning of “Anghkooey” was revealed as “remember” in the season 3 finale. A convincing From theory dives into another potentially hidden meaning, which is that “Anghkooey” is a combination of the words “anchor aweigh.” This is a nautical term said when bringing an anchor aboard a vessel. The theory discusses all the boat-related references in the show, including Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau) getting a boat and the mysterious lighthouse.

Since the monsters all speak English, the theory raises the question of why the children would be speaking a different language. All the boat-related details could mean that a boat could be integral to the characters escaping the Town. This theory does effectively tie several lingering threads together. One downside of the theory coming true is that it could lessen the impact and satisfaction of solving From‘s “Anghkooey” mystery in the season 3 finale.

Season 1 flashbacks show Boyd discovering the Talismans that offer protection from the monsters in an enclosed space. While Boyd found the Talismans, who created them remains a mystery. One Talisman-related From theory offers the idea that Julie is the one who created the Talismans and left them for Boyd to find. Present-day Julie knows about the Talismans, and with her time travel, she may be the one who went back and created them in the first place, along with leaving them for Boyd to find.
Boyd stumbling across the Talismans has always seemed convenient. Julie’s time travel provides a perfect opportunity to explain narrative conveniences and to answer questions that have existed since season 1. If Julie was always the one who created the Talismans, she would not be changing anything. One issue with this theory is the matter of how Julie imbued the Talisman’s engravings with power to stop the monsters from entering an enclosed space. As of now, Julie does not possess this kind of power, although that could change in season 4.

This Reddit theory predicts that Kenny Liu (Ricky He) and Acosta (Samantha Brown) will become a couple in From season 4. The romance blossoming between Kenny and Kristi Miller (Chloe Van Landschoot) in season 1 did not work out due to Kristi’s fiancée, Marielle (Kaelen Ohm), becoming trapped in the Town. Meanwhile, Kenny is one of the only people who has shown Acosta patience and kindness since her arrival. Since Julie is a story walker, this Reddit theory speculates that Marielle and Randall may be story walkers as well. All three of them were possessed by the music box and season 3 makes it clear that even though the music box was destroyed, they are still affected by it. Being survivors of the music box’s possession may be what gives Julie her time-traveling powers, which means Marielle and Randall may be able to time travel as well.
This is further supported by both Julie and Randall sensing something from the dungeon ruins, which is where Julie time travels from when she returns there in a later episode. It is also possible that Marielle and Randall have different story walker abilities than Julie does. If this is the case, it is unclear what those other abilities could be, although Randall’s power must be related to the cicada noises he hears. There are some pieces missing from the theory, but it is a plausible way of explaining the ongoing connection between Julie, Marielle, and Randall.

A major From theory posits that Eloise Kavanaugh (Ellie Cluett) may still be alive. The theory points out how Victor told his father that he only found pieces of Eloise after the massacre. Victor was a traumatized child and may have buried the body parts of another massacred resident. As seen with how he misremembered what happened with Christopher (Thom Payne), Jasper, and the Boy in White, Victor’s trauma means he does not always accurately remember what happened during his youth, and that may extend to Eloise.
The theory also discusses how Victor mentioned that Eloise was always good at playing hide and seek and that she may be hiding in the settlement where From season 3’s wooden statues were found. With Victor’s father being alive and his mother being reincarnated as Tabitha, it would feel fitting for Eloise to be alive as well. The Tabitha situation makes it complicated, but a reunion between all four members of the Kavanaugh family in From season 4 seems like the kind of bittersweet scenario the show would explore.
