The Abia Hunters Security Services has said the dead body of a woman who was declared missing floated on the Imo River in the Oriendu autonomous community before being washed away by the rain.
The hunters said Tuesday that they spotted the body and were not able to go close to the scene due to inadequate equipment.
This was disclosed to THE WHISTLER on Tuesday by the Assistant Commander of Nigeria Hunters Security Services, Emma Onyema, who, with his men, spotted the body.
“We spotted the body, but we were handicapped to go close to it or carry out a proper investigation before a heavy downpour washed the body back into the river,” Onyema said.
Recall that the traditional ruler of the Oriendu autonomous community, HRH Eze Philip Ajomiwe, while speaking with his cabinet and newsmen on Sunday, confirmed that the dead body of a woman had surfaced on the Imo River in their community.
Security concerns have arisen, as the security operatives fear for their safety while attempting to access the crime scene.
“We might be attacked because of the presence of unknown individuals in the area who were packing sand and were not moved by the dead body, as we lack proper weapons to defend ourselves, but we cannot say whether they’re connected to the incident or not.
“The people dumping these bodies come from Imo State with SUVs or Sienna vehicles, and we can’t go after them because they may be armed and we lack what it takes to face them,” Onyema said.
The Nigerian Hunters Forest Security Service expressed its readiness to assist the state government in the investigation but is pleading with the government for intervention and support to always carry out their duty well.
“We need the government to come in and support us; we need equipment and mobility to move in and tackle these issues; we are being recognized in other states except in Abia State.
“His Excellency, sir, please look into this matter. You have been doing well in Abia State and we pray you do something about our Hunters Forest Security Service Abia State Chapter,” the commander pleaded.
The discovery of the mysterious bodies in the Imo River has raised concerns about the safety and security of the region.
