The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to Ukraine during a ceremony marking three years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of the country.
NATO’s Deputy Secretary General Radmila Shekerinska, speaking alongside Ukraine’s Ambassador to NATO, Natalia Galibarenko, praised the resilience and bravery of the Ukrainian people, assuring them that NATO remains a steadfast ally to the country.
“NATO is determined to stand by Ukraine through the challenges ahead,” Shekerinska stated.
“The strength and courage of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians alike continue to inspire the world,” she added.
Shekerinska said NATO has provided significant military assistance to Ukraine since the invasion began.
“In 2024 alone, NATO allies pledged €40 in security aid but ultimately delivered over €50 billion—more than half coming from European nations and Canada,” Shekerinska said.
“The Comprehensive Assistance Package further strengthens Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, while new initiatives—such as the recently opened NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis Training and Education Centre in Poland—are designed to learn from the war and prepare for future challenges,” she stated.
Shekerinska warned that the war’s outcome will impact global security, noting that a key message needs to be sent to North Korea, Iran, and China, who have continually supported Russia in their oppression of Ukraine.
“There are North Korean troops fighting in Europe, Iran is supplying missiles and deadly drones to Russia and China is feeding Russia’s war machine.
“They and others will take note of any deal to end this terrible aggression. So we must ensure that Russia will never again try to take one more kilometre of Ukrainian land. This will require robust security guarantees, and Allies have a vital role to play,” she said.
Addressing Ukrainian veterans in attendance, Shekerinska expressed deep gratitude for their sacrifices, recognising their courage as a testament to Ukraine’s enduring spirit.
“Your story is one of tragedy, but also victory,” she said. “It reflects the unwavering strength of the Ukrainian nation. We are humbled by your commitment, and NATO will continue to stand with you.”
The ceremony concluded with a moment of silence and a musical tribute by the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Cultural Forces unit.
