Warning: Major spoilers for Shoresy season 4 ahead
Season 4 of Shoresy acted as the beginning of a new chapter for Jared Keeso’s Shoresy, and one of the big changes to the show’s dynamic is the foul-mouthed former captain taking on the role of coach for the Bulldogs. It took Nat the entire summer in “Sudvegas” to convince Shoresy to take on the new role, and the ending of season 4 shows Shoresy finally taking the ice as a coach. However, such a massive change for the Bulldogs will fundamentally change the show, and in season 5 the new dynamic will finally start to play out.
The biggest question heading into season 5 relates directly to that change: how will Shoresy and Sanguinet (Harlan Kytwayhat) co-exist at the helm of the NOSHO champions? Interestingly, Sanguinet doesn’t appear in season 4 at all, as it’s mentioned that he went home for the summer along with most of the other Bulldogs. With Sanguinet coming into his own as the coach with Shoresy’s support, it remains to be seen how “Sanger” reacts to having to split coaching duties. The two men have fundamentally different temperaments, so their relationship could wind up a major storyline in season 5.

Shoresy Could Just Replace Sanguinet Entirely
Early in season 4 as Nat is attempting to convince Shoresy to coach, she directly mentions that he will be coaching with Sanguinet, although she doesn’t specify how that would work. Shoresy’s character arc in season 4 is mostly related to him discovering, and also proving, that he is meant to be a hockey coach now that he isn’t able to play anymore. He proves that he’s capable of inspiring loyalty and belief among the Lakers that he coaches, and certainly among his former Bulldogs teammates.

Sanguinet, on the other hand, basically became the coach of the Bulldogs by default, as a young and untalented former member of the team in need of a role. He eventually became a respected coach, but he never showed any of the necessary ability to inspire that Shoresy has. In fact, it’s fair to question whether Sanguinet would even still be the coach of the Bulldogs without Shoresy backing up his authority. Season 5 could see Shoresy replacing Sanguinet as the team’s head coach, which could yield its own intriguing plot line: a heel turn for Sanguinet.
Shoresy & Sanguinet’s Different Coaching Styles Would Hint At A Big Rivalry In Season 5
Their In-Game Philosophies Have Already Clashed Once
If season 5 sees the two men co-coaching the Bulldogs, then a new set of problems will likely arise. Shoresy will undoubtedly look to coach the Bulldogs with the unrestrained intensity he showed as a player. Sanguinet, on the other hand, evolved into a more traditional hockey coach in his time as the Bulldogs coach, reserved and stoic on the bench. Their clashing styles were on display during the NOSHO tournament in season 3, which saw the two men cursing at each other on the bench mid-game.
Sanguinet actor Harlan Kytwayhat is still a relative newcomer, but he was featured in the hit horror-thriller Prey in 2022 (as the character Itsee) in addition to his role on Shoresy.
With two voices suddenly in the mix, it remains to be seen whether the Bulldogs still listen to Sanguinet when the alternative is their former leader in Shoresy. In theory, their clash should be the main story in season 5 of Shoresy, with the former captain’s new path decided, no team to save, and no tournament to win.
