Makinde Promises To Unveil Successor Next Year January

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has said that he would unveil the identity of his preferred successor in January 2026.

Makinde said this on Monday, at the 11th Omituntun Ramadan lecture held in Ibadan.
Makinde has been governor of Oyo since 2019.

The governor, while speaking on his plans for 2027, said he is not a “lame duck” adding that he is aware that some individuals are considering pursuing “other ventures” as his time in office draws to a close.

Makinde while racking a joke with a popular socialite, Abbas Oloko, advised him to spare his billboard erected at the Isale Alfa area of the state for his preferred candidate.

He said that in January 2026, the picture of his preferred successor will be emblazoned on the billboard.

โ€œIโ€™m not yet a lame duck. Please leave my billboard at Isale Alfa,โ€ the governor said.

In January 2026, we know that political activities will start. I will tell you the picture of the person that will be installed there.โ€

Speaking on the lecture, Makinde said the lecture provided him the opportunity to appreciate Muslim leaders in the state for their support for his administration.

The lecture titled โ€˜Benefits of Being a Good Neighbour: An Islamic Perspectiveโ€™, was delivered by Yunus Olushina Teliat, grand chief Imam of Ogbomoland.

Religious and political leaders, including Rashidi Ladoja, a former governor of the state, attended the event.
