Aaron Paul, who joined HBO’s hit series Westworld in season 3, still hopes for a final season despite the series’ cancellation. In 2022, HBO cancelled the Western series abruptly after season 4 due to declining ratings, leaving the series ending on an ambiguous note with plenty of unanswered questions about the oncoming human extinction. The Breaking Bad star plays Caleb Nichols, a war veteran and blue-collar worker infected by the flies at the Delos labs.
In an interview with Collider, Paul expresses his hope for Westwold‘s return. While trying not to spoil too much, the actor reveals that he’s still “holding onto the idea” that the series will receive a proper ending. He shares that he knows where the story goes, and “it’s really cool,” and urges fans to wait out a little and see. Check out what he said below:
I’m not going to say anything, but give it time. I’m still holding onto the idea that we will be able to complete that story. It was very well flushed out. I knew sort of the broad strokes of it all, and it was really cool. But we’ll see.
What This Means For Westworld
Westworld May Come Back One Day
Following the sci-fi series’ cancellation in 2022, many cast members have been vocal about their disappointment. Evan Rachel Wood, who headlines the show as Dolores, shared that she never found out how Westworld is supposed to end, and the suspense still kept her up at night. The star explained that she believed one day they may get to finish the show. It seems that Paul does have a sneak peek into what the series has prepared for season 5, and the knowledge of it gives him a much stronger faith in the show’s potential return in the future.

Despite Westworld’s success, the show never received a fifth season. While the tentative season 5 plans sound interesting, viewers might never see it.
Jonathan Nolan, who created the series with his spouse Lisa Joy, has previously addressed their desire to give the show a proper ending which would allow viewers and stars to find closure. Nolan, who wrote the original script for Interstellar, also shared that it took eight years and a change of director to make one movie, and he wasn’t going to give up on Westworld. Paul’s sentiment mirrors the show creator’s words, indicating that the cast and crew might be working on bringing the show back behind the scenes.

Can’t Wait For It To Return
Westworld season 4 finale ends on a cliffhanger. The human replica host of Caleb finally reunites with his daughter, Frankie. Knowing that he’ll eventually deteriorate and reject the body as a host, Caleb decides to stay on the dock and watch his daughter leave in a boat. Hale brings Dolores back and puts down host William, ending her own story in a way to bring forth a new beginning. It’s assumed that season 5 is heading back toward the theme park.
The show is also expected to conclude the human and host conflict. However, Paul’s comment suggests that Westworld may be far from finished, and given the blueprint and story for Westworld season 5 are already ready, it’s simply a shame that the show won’t be continued. However, time does bring changes. Many projects that were once left off might be picked up again in the TV space, so there’s still hope.
