What Happened To Elijah Gemstone's Golden Bible In The Righteous Gemstones?

WARNING: SPOILERS ahead for The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 1.

The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 1 introduced the oldest Gemstone in series history, Elijah Gemstone, who stole a gold-plated Bible that ended up saving his life. Played by 12-time Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper, Elijah Gemstone was a thief, con artist, and murderer before he pretended to be a Confederate chaplain named Abel Grieves. It was while he was impersonating Abel, who he had killed earlier in the episode, that he discovered the power โ€“ and perks โ€“ of Christ.

By the end of The Righteous Gemstones season 4, episode 1, Elijah had been spared by Union soldiers following an ambush on his Confederate regiment. The soldiers that Elijah had traveled with were all executed by firing squad but the Union major spared Elijah’s life since he was a practicing man of God, or so he thought. Elijah starts reading Abel’s gold-plated Bible to educate himself on how to be a better minister con artist but he also appears to start believing in God after his life was nearly taken.

Elijah Gemstone Had A Gold-Plated Bible โ€“ Where Is It In The Righteous Gemstones’ Present Timeline?

The Gold-Plated Bible Has Yet To Appear In the Present-Day Timeline

Considering the immense value of the Civil War-era gold-plated Bible, both financially and figuratively, it is likely considered a Gemstone family heirloom if Eli Gemstone ever learned about it. Since it has never been mentioned in The Righteous Gemstones before, it appears to be a new story invention for season 4 but one that should have an impact on the course of the fourth and final season. Eli has never been seen with Elijah’s gold-plated Bible but it would be surprising if it hadn’t been passed down between generations.

The titular family in The Righteous Gemstones is massive, and here is a full breakdown of the Gemstone, Freeman, and Montgomery family tree.

There’s no way of knowing for sure what Elijah ended up doing with that gold-plated Bible but it’s heavily implied that it became one of the most important items he’s ever owned by the end of The Righteous Gemstone’s season 4 premiere. Given its significance, combined with the fact that Elijah sparked several generations of minister Gemstones, the Bible has to still be a part of the family. Unless, of course, someone โ€“ perhaps a Grieves โ€“ stole the Bible from Elijah or a Gemstone down the line, which could set up a season 4 hunt to get it back.

Elijah’s Golden Bible Will Likely Become An Important Part Of The Righteous Gemstones Season 4’s Story

It Single-Handedly Inspired Elijah To Become An Actual Religious Leader

The Righteous Gemstones season 4 viewers should keep an eye out for Elijah’s gold-plated Bible to resurface at some point in future episodes. Whether it becomes a central part of the season 4 narrative or only provides context for a powerful scene, odds are that viewers have not seen the last of the Gemstone family heirloom. If Eli steps away from the church in The Righteous Gemstones season 4, he could offer it to Jesse, Judy, and Kelvin as a blessing for their shared control and ownership.
