What Harmony Cobel Was Looking For In Severance Season 2 Episode 8 & What It Means For The Eagan Family

Warning! This article contains spoilers for Severance season 2’s episode 8.

Severance season 2’s episode 8 takes an interesting turn as it sets out to explore Harmony Cobel’s history by following her quest to find something important in her childhood home. After appearing in Severance season 2’s opening episodes, Cobel suddenly disappeared when she realized that Lumon was willing to let her go without considering how she dedicated her life to the company. Following her initial disappearance, she finally appears in Severance season 2’s episode 8, which walks through everything from her Lumon origins to her hidden work in the company.

Almost throughout the Severance season 2 episode, Cobel either tries to look for something in the home where her mother, Charlotte, passed away or reminiscences the traumatic memories she experienced before she left to join Lumon. Since she seems desperate to find something in the house in Salt’s Neck, it becomes hard not to wonder what she is searching for. Fortunately, before the episode’s end credits start rolling, it finally discloses what Cobel was expecting to find and what it means for her future in Severance.

Harmony Cobel Was Looking For Proof That She Designed Jame Eagan’s Biggest Inventions

She Let Jame Eagan Take Credit For Her Achievements

After looking through the entire house, Harmony Cobel realizes that Sissy might have stored her belongings in the cellar even though she claims she gave them away to the poor. To her relief, she finds everything from her early Lumon achievements to the notebook she was looking for. She takes the notebook to Sissy and shows her how she was the genius behind Lumon’s severance-related inventions. The notebook contains intricate diagrams and notes of all the procedures and overrides an individual can be put through after being severed.

…Instead of being credited and awarded for groundbreaking inventions, Cobel was silenced by the authoritative leaders of the company.

With the notebook, Harmony Cobel finds solid proof that the Overtime Contingency, Glasgow Block, and all other components of the severance procedure were her creations. However, instead of being credited and awarded for groundbreaking inventions, Cobel was silenced by the authoritative leaders of the company. Jame Eagan shamelessly took all the credit for her designs, while Cobel was convinced that her silence was a test of her devotion to Kier. She collects the proof of her inventions in Severance season 2’s episode 8 because she finally realizes how the company exploited her and her talents.

Why Sissy Tried To Burn The Papers That Proved Harmony Invented Lumon’s Designs

Sissy Is Blinded By Her Devotion To Kier

Sissy remains loyal to the Eagans and Kier’s vision, which is why she fails to see how the company exploited their town and ruined the lives of many, like Harmony. She consistently acknowledges her devotion to Kier and establishes that she will not hear a word against Lumon or the family that runs it. Even towards the end of Severance season 2’s episode 8, she tries to burn Harmony’s notebook because she sees it as a threat to the family she worships. She realizes that Cobel could seriously harm Jame Eagan’s reputation by proving that he stole her designs.

Considering the Eagan family’s influence on the town of Kier, it seems unlikely that Harmony Cobel will be able to do much with the notebook alone. If she tries to expose the company by claiming that Jame stole her designs and inventions, the Eagans could simply dismiss her claims by saying she is lying. However, season 2’s episode 8 reveal proves that Harmony Cobel is no regular former Lumon worker. She very well knows what Lumon is trying to achieve and understands the inner workings and neuroscience behind the severance procedure.
