Yellowjackets season 3, episode 4’s ending delivers a shocking blow by revealing Lottie’s death in the present-day narrative. This comes as a shock, as viewers learn about Lottie’s demise alongside Misty — and we even get glimpses of her going about her day earlier in “12 Angry Girls and 1 Drunk Travis.”
It’s not clear what causes Lottie’s death in Yellowjackets season 3, but episode 5 should shed further light on the incident, especially with Misty on the case. Although many expected a death or two in the show’s past timeline by now — particularly with the Wilderness trial against Coach Ben getting so nasty — things seem to be heating up more quickly in the present-day story. And with Lottie perishing so soon after Natalie’s Yellowjackets season 2 death, viewers must face a troubling truth about the characters who survive the Wilderness as teens.
Lottie & Natalie’s Deaths Mean None Of The Adult Survivors Are Safe
The Rest Of The Characters In The Present-Day Timeline Are Also Fair Game
After Natalie’s death at the end of Yellowjackets season 2, Lottie’s fate confirms a harsh truth about the characters in the adult timeline: none of them are safe. Although it initially seems like most of Yellowjackets’ deaths will take place in the past timeline, the show is quickly proving otherwise. Despite how few main characters there are in the present-day narrative, the series is more than willing to kill them off. There’s no plot armor in either timeline, and that means that Lottie may not be the last of the adult survivors to meet a grim end.
Tai, Van, Misty, and Shauna are all fair game in and beyond Yellowjackets season 3, as it seems the Wilderness is claiming them, even years after their rescue.
Viewers shouldn’t get comfortable after Lottie’s death, either, as the show killing her and Natalie off so close together means it could claim another adult character before season 3 is through. Tai, Van, Misty, and Shauna are all fair game in and beyond Yellowjackets season 3, as it seems the Wilderness is claiming them, even years after their rescue. While it’s still not clear if a supernatural force is truly behind these tragedies, or if it’s simply the result of all they’ve been through, the show refuses to go easy on them.
The Adult Survivors’ Biggest Threats Have Always Been Themselves
Their Deaths Stem From Their Inability To Let Go Of The Wilderness
Perhaps it’s not surprising that the adult survivors are meeting gruesome ends in Yellowjackets, as they’ve proven that they’re the biggest threats to themselves. While much of what unfolds in the past timeline can be chalked up to misfortune and desperation, so much of what befalls the adult survivors is due to their own actions. Natalie dies while trying to protect Lisa from Misty. However, none of them would have been in that situation if the girls hadn’t attempted another hunt to appease the Wilderness, years after escaping it.

It’s possible she was even trying to communicate with the Wilderness, like Travis, who also perished because of his need to pursue it. Yellowjackets season 3 is proof that the survivors are stuck in the past, and that past is haunting them in dangerous ways. It could set its sights on one of the others, like Tai or Shauna, now that it’s exacted its price from Lottie.
