Breaking: Shops razed as another fire incident wreaks havoc in Ibadan market

Properties worth millions of naira were on Thursday night destroyed at the Agodi- Araromi market in Ibadan during a late night inferno.

It was gathered that during the fire incident, no fewer than 12 shops were affected.

Sources at the market said the fire reportedly started at Block A, No 64 Mayegun Cement store at 10:55pm before spreading to other nearby shops

It was gathered that the fire incident which lasted for several hours before the arrival of men of the Oyo state Fire Brigade service

Oyo state General Manager of the Fire Brigade Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, while confirming the incident said the agency received the distressed call at exactly 11:02pm.

He said the fire personnel led by Cfs Jimoh promptly deployed to the scene of the fire incident.

โ€œOn arrival, we met some lockup shops well alight and we swiftly swung into action and restricted the fire from spreading to other nearby shops.

โ€œThe fire affected twelve (12) shops out of multiple numbers of shops and we were able to save properties worth billions of naira in the market,โ€ he said.

Akinyinka added that the fire was caused by electricity surge which later ignited nearly flammable materials.
