The Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially welcomed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa into its fold, describing their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a landmark moment in the state’s political history.
In a statement signed by State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, the party said the decision by the two political heavyweights alongside thousands of their supporters to join the APC represents a “bold and strategic move” that underscores growing confidence in the party’s vision for a progressive Delta State and a prosperous Nigeria.
“This high-profile defection is not only historic but deeply symbolic,” the statement read. “It signals a new era of unity and inclusiveness in Delta APC and reflects the party’s broadening appeal across political divides.”
Governor Oborevwori and Senator Okowa’s entry into the APC, according to the party, will bring valuable governance experience, grassroots support, and renewed momentum as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections. The party believes the development will also enhance its internal cohesion and strengthen its structures statewide.
Delta APC also emphasized the strategic significance of this realignment for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election efforts. As a pivotal state in the South-South geopolitical zone, Delta’s swing into the APC column could be key to delivering strong electoral results in the next national polls.
“The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda continues to resonate with Nigerians,” the statement added, “and the consolidation of strong political forces in Delta will significantly advance this agenda.”
The party urged all members both old and new to embrace the development in good faith, and to work in harmony toward building a more vibrant and representative political platform.
