The Lagos State Police Command has thwarted a robbery attempt in the Ajegunle area of the state, arresting two suspects and recovering a firearm in the process.
The suspects, identified as Azeez Anofi, popularly known as “Stainless,” and Damilare Obadia, both 25 years old, were apprehended in the early hours of Monday, around 6:30 a.m. by officers from the Layeni Police Division.
The duo allegedly attempted to hijack a commercial tricycle, widely known as Keke Marwa, along Layeni Ojo Road.
According to command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge were recovered from the suspects during the arrest.
He added that further investigation has commenced to arrest other suspects and recover other operational weapons.
“The suspects, who were arrested by operatives of Layeni Division, are Azeez Anofi ‘m’ aged 25, a.k.a. Stainless and Damilare Obadia ‘m’, aged 25, had attempted to snatch a tricycle, popularly known as Keke Marwa.
“Following the arrest, one locally made pistol and one expended cartridge were recovered from the suspects. Further investigation has commenced to arrest other suspects and recover other operational weapons,” Hundeyin said in a statement on Tuesday.
Meanwhile , the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has praised the swift response of the Layeni Division officers.
Jimoh also urged residents to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
