Traditional rulers and prominent figures from Kwara South have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for adhering to the principles of federal character in his appointments.
Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital, Chairman of the Leaders of Thought, Chief James Ayeni, expressed confidence in the administration’s efforts to move Nigeria forward. According to him, though the ongoing reforms may be challenging at first, they are necessary steps toward national progress and fulfillment of the country’s potential.
Ayeni praised President Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, equity, and justice in the selection of public officeholders, noting that several key roles have been allocated to indigenes of Kwara South. These include Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) as Attorney General and Minister of Justice, and Bashir Bayo Ojulari as Group CEO of the NNPCL, among others.
“These appointments show that President Tinubu is a leader for all Nigerians, regardless of ethnicity, region, or religion,” Ayeni said. “It is clear that his decisions reflect the federal character, and his administration is working tirelessly to address the country’s challenges since taking office in 2023.”
He added that Tinubu’s political foresight and talent-spotting ability are evident in the caliber of individuals chosen for leadership roles. Ayeni highlighted that Kwara South is benefitting significantly from the fair distribution of appointments, which has strengthened the district’s sense of inclusion in national affairs.
He assured the President of continued support and loyalty from the people of Kwara South, stressing that criticisms of Yoruba appointments from the state stem from a misunderstanding of Kwara’s demographics. “Many seem to overlook the fact that about 70 percent of Kwara State’s population is Yoruba,” he noted.
