The plans cover the Wase-Taraba, Shemanka-Katsina Ala, and Ngade (West Chad) catchment areas.
The ACReSAL Project is a Federal Government-World Bank funded initiative implemented across 19 Northern States in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr Prof Joseph Terlumun Utsev, in his address at the occasion emphasized the importance of implementing the Catchment Management Plans to address the challenges of climate change and land degradation.
He urged all stakeholders to publicize the content of the plans and work towards their effective implementation.
He said the project aims to address the challenges of land degradation and climate change, promote environmental sustainability, and socio-economic resilience across semi-arid regions of the country.
The minister, who was represented by permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr. Richard Pheelangwa, said the validated plans will serve as a guide to related investments and policy decisions, management of land, water, and environmental resources, and account for monitoring and evaluation within the defined catchment areas.
