Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has appealed for intensified government intervention to address the escalating terrorism affecting various regions across Nigeria, particularly Isa Local Government Area in Sokoto State.
In a statement released on Sunday, Atiku highlighted the growing threat posed by violent extremists and the devastating impact on communities.
He described the recent attacks in Isa as a “desperate cry for help” that demands immediate attention from both the federal government and security agencies.
“The escalating wave of terrorism across various parts of our country demands urgent and intensified action from the government,” Atiku said.
“Beyond the tragic and senseless loss of lives, these acts of violence are sowing deep-seated distrust among our people, threatening the very fabric of our national unity.”
Residents of Isa Local Government Area have been repeatedly targeted in attacks that have resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property, leaving many in fear for their safety.
Local leaders have issued urgent appeals to government authorities, describing the situation as an “SOS” for protection and support.
Atiku echoed these concerns, warning that the crisis in Isa is a “microcosm of a broader crisis” facing Nigeria.
“What happens there today could happen elsewhere tomorrow if we fail to act decisively.
“The time for proactive engagement by our security agencies and government authorities is now,” he stressed.
Calling for a multi-faceted approach to the crisis, Atiku urged that “Isa Local Government needs urgent support — both in security and humanitarian relief.”
However, he emphasized that the fight against terrorism goes beyond military responses.
“Our greatest weapon against terrorism is not found in the barrels of guns, but in the unyielding strength of our collective unity,” he said.
“Let us stand together — North and South, Christians and Muslims, young and old — to confront this evil. Only through solidarity and shared resolve can we push back the scourge of terrorism and build a safer, more united Nigeria.”
