Businessman Shot Dead In Anambra

Armed men have killed a businessman who operates a wine bar and recreation spot in Oko, the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, captured in footage and shared via Instagram, revealed that the incident occurred at about 7 pm on June 7, after the armed men ambushed the victim while riding in his Lexus vehicle.

According to the footage, the assailants shot at the victim thrice before racing off from the scene located around the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in the state.

The footage captured the Lexus vehicle, parked in front of the wine bar, while a narrator disclosed that the body of the victim was conveyed by his brother to the nearby police station.

When contacted, the Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident.

โ€œIt was a cult-related killing and following the Swift response of the Police Operatives led by the DPO, one suspect was arrested and is currently undergoing interrogation,โ€ the spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, told THE WHISTLER.

Ikenga said that the body of the victim has been deposited at a morgue.

โ€œThe operatives also recovered the victimโ€™s vehicle at the scene. Further development shall be communicated, please,โ€ he added.

Ikenga further disclosed that while such incidents have often been attributed to โ€œunknown gunmenโ€, Anambra residents have come to terms with the reality that โ€œthere is nothing like unknown gunmenโ€.

โ€œThese persons terrorising the State are unrepentant criminals who have refused to change their ways,โ€ the recent release by the command said on Monday.

โ€œGiven the above, Ndi Anambra has shown more resolve and commitment by working with the Police and other Security agencies to fish out the bad eggs and deny the criminals the space to wreak more havoc in the State

โ€œMeanwhile, Police have improved surveillance and patrols to deter crime and maintain order.

โ€œIn the event of a request for any security services, please call the Command Control Room Number on 07039194332 or PPRO on 08039334002 for a prompt response.

โ€œThe โ€˜npf rescue me appโ€™ is also available for free download on Android and iOS devices for Android and iPhone users, respectively,โ€ the police added.
