The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, known as the Lagos State Taskforce, Friday, conducted overnight operation in the Agege environs, leading to the arrest of 84 suspects.
According to the agency, the comprehensive enforcement and clean-up exercise commenced at led by the Chairman of the Agency, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Adetayo Akerele, targeted key areas including the Railways corridor, Oke Koto, Isale Oja, AP roundabout, and other adjoining streets in the area.
“These specific locations had been identified as hotspots through numerous public complaints and distress calls, indicating a pervasive presence of street urchins, miscreants, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals, particularly during late hours,” it said.
“During the extensive raid, a total of eighty-four suspects were apprehended. The arrested individuals comprise eighty-two males and two females. Following the operation, the Taskforce reported that order and sanity were successfully restored to all visited locations,” the agency added.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, CSP Akerele issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the state.
He emphasized that the Agency remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring environmental decorum and the security of lives and property across Lagos.
“The recalcitrant violators of laws should desist immediately or face the full weight of the law,” Akerele declared.
He further disclosed that this operation is part of an ongoing strategic initiative by the Taskforce to conduct routine enforcement operations at least thrice-weekly. This sustained effort, Akerele stated, is aimed at systematically eliminating criminal activities and safeguarding law-abiding residents and businesses in the targeted areas.
All suspects arrested during the operation have been charged to court accordingly.
