The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected traffic robbers, including a recently released ex-convict, for allegedly terrorizing commuters along the Ketu and Mile 12 axis of the state.
The suspects, identified as 33-year-old Yemi Aparaojo, popularly known as Asa, and 37-year-old Samuel Adekunle, alias Omo-jo-Ibo, were apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.
According to a statement by RRS on Wednesday, Aparaojo was released from the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre in May after serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence.
Adekunle, on the other hand, had been linked to a series of traffic robberies in the Ajelogo and Ketu areas, prompting a manhunt by law enforcement agents.
The duo were part of a four-man gang that allegedly robbed a passerby of N25,000 last week.
The victim had reportedly attempted to offer the gang some money when they accosted him, but was instead assaulted and forcefully dispossessed of his cash.
Luck ran out on the suspects on Tuesday when the victim spotted Adekunle around the Ketu area and quickly alerted nearby RRS operatives.
Both men were arrested at the scene, while two other gang members fled through the Ketu market and are currently at large.
Commander of the RRS, CSP Sola Jejeloye, had in line with the directives of the Commissioner of Police, CP Moshood Jimoh reinforced Response riders at Ketu and Mile 12 to stem the tide of crime on the corridor.
Jejeloye said the suspects would be arraigned in court immediately, as efforts continue to track down the fleeing gang members.
