Tech billionaire Elon Musk has claimed that President Donald Trump was named in court documents related to the late convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.
Musk’s claim came as the rift between the once-close allies intensifies.
On Thursday, via X, Musk wrote, “@realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”
He followed up with a tweet, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Musk has yet to back his claim with any proof.
The Epstein files are part of sealed Justice Department documents related to Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking of underage girls to powerful men.
The claim comes just days after Musk stepped down as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Trump’s administration.
The department tasked with cutting federal spending led the controversial closure of several agencies, including the US Agency for International Development (USAID), and is said to have saved $180bn so far.
Tensions had been brewing since Musk began criticising Trump’s recently passed tax-and-spending bill, which he described as a “disgusting abomination”.
In his first reaction to the criticisms on Thursday, Trump accused Musk of going “CRAZY!” and said he had asked him to leave the administration.
“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore,” Trump said at a press conference alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
“We are doing things in that bill that are unbelievable. Elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here. All of a sudden, he had a problem,” Trump told reporters.
Musk fired back on X, saying, “Without me, Trump would have lost the election,” accusing the president of being “such ingratitude”.
