UniPort Mourns Student Killed In Off-Campus Shooting Incident

The University of Port Harcourt (UniPort) has expressed deep sadness over the untimely death of Mr. Godwin Akpakpan, a 300-level student of Computer Science, who was allegedly killed by a security personnel in an off-campus shooting incident.

The incident, which occurred outside the university premises, has sent shockwaves through the academic community.

According to a press release signed by Dr. Sam Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, the university management extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.

โ€œOur thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult time,โ€ the release stated.

The university has announced that it is actively engaging with relevant security authorities to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

โ€œWe expect that a thorough investigation will be conducted and that appropriate actions will be taken in line with justice and the rule of law,โ€ the release added.

The university, however, appealed to members of the academic community, especially students, to remain calm and allow the relevant agencies to carry out their investigations, saying: โ€œThe University remains committed to the safety, dignity, and well-being of all students and staff and will continue to take necessary steps to uphold these values.โ€
