A tragic incident has occurred in Elele community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, where a member of the Organized Security Planning and Advisory Committee (OSPAC), Godspower, and his colleague, J Boy, allegedly beat a father of two, Confidence Ikechi, to death.
According to Chiwenkpe Ikechi, the elder brother of the deceased, the incident happened after a lady in their compound started insulting Confidence, calling him a drunkard and smelling.
The situation escalated when Confidence retaliated against the ladyโs insults and physical attack, prompting her to call her boyfriend, Godspower, who is an OSPAC personnel.
โMy brother closed work and came back by 11pm. He came to where I work and drink. Then he went back to his compound. A lady in the compound started embarrassing him, that he is a drunkard, that he is smelling,โ Chiwenkpe narrated.
Ikechi said the lady allegedly poured saliva on Confidence and slapped him, prompting him to slap her back.
The situation further escalated when the lady hit Confidence with a stick and ran away to call her boyfriend.
He said Godspower and his colleagues arrived at the scene, beating Confidence on the chest, stomach, and back until he started bleeding.
โThey drove in the compound, used stick and machete to hit him on his chest, stomach, and back, he started bleeding. The thing they planned, they also did it and killed the young boy,โ Chiwenkpe said.
Meanwhile, the police have arrested the OSPAC personnel, Godspower, his girlfriend, and her son in connection with the incident.
He disclosed that the matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Port Harcourt.
โWe need them to be sentenced. They cannot kill the young boy and go free,โ Chiwenkpe demanded.
The Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe Koko, was yet to respond to an enquiry on the incident by our reporter.
However, it was gathered that the OSPAC personnel, Godspower, his girlfriend, and her son are detained at SCIID, Port Harcourt.
The deceased was reportedly a member of OSPAC vigilante in his own community in Obelle, Emohua LGA, but presently resides at Elele community.
