Anambra Govt Condemns Ogboji Killing, Warns Against Reprisal

Anambra State Government has condemned the recent killing of innocent lives at Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of the state.

Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor in a statement extended heartfelt condolences to the deceased families.

He assured people of the state and beyond that the incident was not targeted at any particular state or ethnic group.

He said preliminary investigations revealed that the unfortunate incident might have stemmed from an internal squabble.

The statement reads partly: โ€œWe want to assure the good people of Anambra and beyond that this incident was not targeted at any particular state or ethnic group.

โ€œPreliminary investigations suggest that the unfortunate incident may have stemmed from an internal squabble.

โ€œThe government expects the police command to conduct a thorough investigation, identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime, and bring them to justice.

โ€œThe government assures the people of Ogboji and the entire state that we will do everything humanly possible to ensure justice is served.

โ€œWe urge all residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended.โ€

Recall that the Anambra State Police Command confirmed the shooting that left 10 people dead in Ogboji.

The police described the attack as unprovoked and fatal, assuring that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

โ€œThe Command shall hunt down the perpetrators and bring them to justice,โ€ he said.

According to the police, armed men in two SUVs stormed a gathering and opened fire without provocation, leaving multiple casualties.

The victims were rushed to the hospital, but ten were confirmed dead, and their bodies have since been deposited in the morgue.
