The vice chancellor of Federal University Kashere (FUK), Professor Umar Pate, has applauded the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a landmark reform reshaping the face of tertiary education in the country.
Addressing journalists at a pre-convocation media briefing held on campus, Tuesday, Professor Pate stated that no fewer than 8,266 students of the institution have so far tapped into the NELFUND programme, with a cumulative disbursement totaling N1.73 billion.
He added that the funds, covering service charges and monthly stipends, have significantly reduced the financial stress faced by students and helped maintain academic continuity.
“This initiative stands out as one of the most impactful policies for Nigerian students in recent years,” Professor Pate remarked.
He lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government for actualising the student loan policy, describing it as a bold step towards equitable access to education and long-term national development.
The vice chancellor’s remark came in the build-up to the university’s upcoming combined convocation ceremony, which will see graduates from the 6th to 9th sets awarded degrees across diverse academic fields.
