At least 29 people have been killed after suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a community in Adamawa State, northeast Nigeria, during a local football match.
The deadly assault happened on Sunday in Guyaku area, a part of Adamawa known for repeated attacks by insurgents and armed gangs.

Residents said the attackers struck while youths and families had gathered to watch a football match between neighbouring communities. The gunmen reportedly arrived around 5pm, opened fire and sent spectators running for safety.
A local resident, Musa Guyaku, described the terrifying scene.
“Youths organised a football match between two communities. Suddenly, gunmen invaded our community and were shooting sporadically, killing two persons sitting in a hut and burning down the hut,” he said.
Beyond the killings, the attackers also set buildings on fire, including places of worship, leaving many residents displaced and in mourning.
Adamawa State Governor Umaru Fintiri later visited the affected community after cutting short official engagements. He described the incident as painful and confirmed that about 29 people lost their lives.
“We will continue to do our best because they are our people, and we will stand by them,” the governor said.
He added that the state government would work closely with the military and other security agencies to improve protection in vulnerable communities.
Adamawa State has faced years of insecurity caused by Boko Haram insurgency, bandit attacks and communal clashes over land.
