The Edo State Police Command has reacted to a viral video involving an aide to Governor Monday Okpebholo, clarifying that the Commissioner of Police did not endorse any controversial political comments made during the incident.

The aide, identified as Agogo the Towncrier, was seen in the footage allegedly saying he would hand over any member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) found in the state to the police.
He also reportedly referred to former presidential candidate Peter Obi with insulting remarks.
The video further showed Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika smiling during the exchange, a reaction that sparked criticism online.
Many observers questioned whether the response was appropriate given the nature of the comments.
Reacting in a statement on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Eno Ikoedem said the remarks were entirely personal and did not represent the views of the commissioner or the command.
The statement read, “At no point did the Commissioner of Police endorse, adopt, or align himself with the remarks made.”
The command stressed that CP Agbonika remains a professional and non-partisan officer committed to the constitutional duties of the Nigeria Police Force.
Police also stated that the comments are being reviewed for any possible security implications beyond comedy or showmanship.
The command reminded political parties, supporters, and residents that everyone has the right to lawful political activities without intimidation.
However, it warned strongly against violence, incitement, thuggery, or any act capable of disturbing public peace.
According to the statement, anyone found engaging in activities that threaten public order would face decisive legal action.
The Edo Police Command added that it remains committed to protecting peace, public safety, and democratic processes across the state.
