Elden Ring Fans Split On Iconic Character’s New Look

Elden Ring fans have had an exciting few weeks, with the upcoming movie from A24 and director Alex Garland getting an official release date for March 3, 2028, and several behind-the-scenes images leaking online. Filming officially started earlier this month, and fans across various set locations have posted their findings online, sparking waves of interest and speculation about the adaptation.

Fans have, in large part, been quite skeptical about the film adaptation of Elden Ring, with ongoing debate over how the story could accurately or satisfyingly be interpreted on screen. And while the circulating images have sparked a wave of excitement among Elden Ring players, they’ve also left a portion of the fanbase feeling “unconvinced,”

particularly when it comes to one iconic character’s portrayal (via Reddit).

Iconic Elden Ring Character’s New Look Leaves Gamers Split

Queen Marika from Elden Ring.

Easily one of the most noteworthy and recognizable characters from Elden Ring, images of Marika from the in-development A24 Films adaptation of the game have officially leaked online, giving players a glimpse at how she’ll be brought to life in live action. A handful of leaked Marika images from varying sources (e.g., X, Reddit, etc.) show her from different angles, presumably all from the same day of filming.

Notably, the images featuring Marika show her with two braids intact, which has sparked a heated debate about the game’s timeline and story. Lore enthusiasts will note that two braids would indicate a pre-Shattering depiction of Marika, but it’s difficult to draw any concrete conclusions in terms of story from the leaked images alone.

That said, fans are largely divided on Marika’s new look, with users like Disastrous_Tough7046 completely sold, saying it “looks exactly on point” and that the“movie is gonna be so peak!!!” Other gamers like Talkimas are more cautious to jump to that conclusion, but are still optimistic, saying these sort of behind-the-scenes looks make it “easier to tell when it’s going to be bad/poorly done/lazy and there’s nothing in the photo that makes me think that.”

And on the other end of the spectrum, fans like Yab0iFiddlesticks remain “very unconvinced” based on these images alone, though not ruling out “the possibility of it looking better in the end.” Ultimately, it’s too hard to tell how close these images will be to what we actually see on screen, given the post-production “magic” has yet to be added.

Elden Ring Hits The Big Screen In 2028

There’s bound to be heated discussion on the finer details of the upcoming Elden Ring film as more information begins to surface in the next couple of years. The movie is not scheduled to release until March 2028, giving fans plenty of time to theorize and speculate on the story, characters, etc.

While it may seem like a long way off, there’s more to look forward to in the interim for Elden Ring enthusiasts, such as the upcoming 2026 release of Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2, which could be coming any day now after pre-orders were officially opened earlier this month. Ultimately, it’s an exciting time to be an Elden Ring fan, and the future of the franchise is looking bright.
