Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi capital, has experienced its first rain in 2026.
The rain, which started at about 4a.m. on Monday, came after a heavy windstorm accompanied by dust that lasted for few hours.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the rain has gradually put an end to the lingering heat experienced in Birnin Kebbi.
Some farmers who spoke to NAN expressed happiness over what they described as an early rain in the state.
A farmer at the Fadama farm along Dukku waterway, Malam Abubakar Shehu, said the early rain would motivate farmers to prepare adequately for the rainy season farming.
“We actually expected the rain to commence around May. However, we are happy it has started in April.
“I think many farmers will now start clearing their farmlands preparatory to rainy season planting,” he said.
Another farmer, Malam Mohammed Umar, advised farmers not to rush for this year’s cultivation, recalling that NiMet had issued similar advice to Nigerian farmers.
A resident, Aminu Bala, noted that the rainfall had reduced the high temperature in the town.
“Many people could not sleep inside their rooms at night because of the heat, and the irregular power supply is worsening the situation.
“Glory be to God Almighty, the heat has drastically reduced following this rainfall,” he said.
Another resident in the Badariya area, Malam Zaki Usman, expressed delight that the rain had made the state capital cooler, saying there would no longer be high demand for ice blocks and cold water.
