A fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday razed parts of a business plaza along Airport Road in Kano, destroying two hospital equipment shops.
The Kano State Fire Service said the incident occurred at No. 20A Airport Road in Fagge Local Government Area.
This was contained in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
According to the statement, the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call at about 4:01 a.m. from a resident identified as Chukude reporting the fire outbreak.
“Upon receiving the report, firefighters from the agency’s headquarters and other stations within the metropolis were immediately mobilised to the scene of the incident,” the statement said.
On arrival, responders discovered that a two-storey building measuring about 100 by 100 feet and used as a business plaza had been engulfed in flames.
The fire service said two hospital equipment shops located on the ground floor of the plaza were affected by the inferno.
It added that multiple firefighting trucks were mobilised from Abubakar Rimi Market, Kantin Kwari, Bompai Fire Station and the Central Fire Station to contain the blaze.
“The cause of the incident is under investigation,” the statement added.
The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks.
He also advised members of the public to remain safety conscious and promptly report emergencies to relevant authorities.
