Fresh allegations of police brutality have been levelled against an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Usman Nuhu, who was recently arrested over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a young man in Delta State.
A woman, identified as Ozima Paris Ekeh, accused the officer and members of his team of assault, harassment, sexual intimidation and extortion.
Ekeh, in a post shared on social media, alleged that the incident occurred in 2023 when she was intercepted while riding on a commercial motorcycle.
According to her, Nuhu and members of his squad stopped the motorcycle in traffic and ordered both her and the rider to dismount.
She alleged that the officer became aggressive and struck her several times with his gun without provocation.
“He hit me and dragged the bike man down. He asked me to enter their shuttle bus,” she said.
Ekeh further alleged that as she approached the police vehicle, the officer continued to assault her while making inappropriate comments about her body.
She described the experience as humiliating and dehumanising.
Woman Alleges Threat To Life
Ekeh said the situation worsened after she was forced into the police vehicle. According to her, she was threatened with death and warned that nothing would happen if the officers killed her.
“I thought they might kill me or even rape me,” she said.
She also alleged that one of the men in the vehicle told her to cooperate if she had money, suggesting she could be further abused if she refused.
Ekeh claimed that the officers demanded ₦50,000 from her and threatened to take her to a police station where she would be “dealt with” if she failed to pay.
She said she eventually agreed to pay out of fear. According to her, one of the officers, dressed in mufti, escorted her to a nearby Point of Sale operator, where she withdrew the money and handed it over to them.
Ekeh said she was left traumatised by the incident and cried throughout the ordeal.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that her allegation comes amid public outrage over the reported arrest of Nuhu following the killing of a young man, identified as Oghenemine, in Delta State.
The killing has renewed concerns about police accountability, excessive use of force and alleged abuse by officers.
