Governor Umar Namadi has signed into law the 2026 Jigawa State Polling Unit Development Fund Bill, a new initiative designed to take governance and development directly to communities across the state.
The new law provides for monthly allocations of N250,000 to each of the 287 political wards in Jigawa State to support grassroots development projects and improve service delivery at the local level.
Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Government House in Dutse, Governor Namadi described the legislation as “a bold step to deepen participatory governance and ensure that no community is left behind in the development agenda.”
Under the arrangement, an 11-member committee will be established in every political ward to manage the funds and ensure transparency and accountability.
The committees will include religious leaders, community leaders, civil society representatives and political leaders.
The governor said the fund would provide dedicated resources for all polling units across the 27 local government areas of the state, enabling communities to identify and execute micro-projects based on their most pressing needs.
The bill was earlier passed by the Jigawa State House of Assembly following the presentation of the report of its Committee on Local Government.
