A housewife, Kafayat Moshood, is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital after her neighbour, Mrs. Omolade Basirat, 32, allegedly poured hot water on her during a public fight in Ipaja, Lagos.
THETIMES reports that the incident happened on 27th March, 2026, around 8:20 PM at No. 5, Adeljabi Street, Man-Nia, Ipaja, Lagos, where both women live.
The Police operatives from Ipaja Division arrested Basirat after the fight. She has now been charged to court over her alleged conduct.
According to the Police, the two married women had a disagreement over one of the husbands. The argument turned into insults, then a physical fight. During the brawl, Basirat allegedly boiled water and poured it on Kafayat, causing severe burns to her back and other parts of her body.
The victim, Mrs. Kafayat, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. Her family reported the matter to the Police, and Basirat was arrested and detained for questioning.
After investigation, the Police filed charges against Basirat at the Ejigbo Magistrate Court.
The charges read:
COUNT 1: “That you, Omolade Basirat ‘F’, on 27th March, 2026 at about 20:20hrs at No. 5, Adeljabi Street, Man-Nia, Ipaja, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawfully cause grievous harm to Kafayat Moshood ‘F’ by pouring hot water on her body, causing burns on her back, and committed an offence contrary to Section 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
COUNT 2:”That you, Omolade Basirat ‘F’, on the same date, time and place, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by attacking and pouring hot water on Kafayat Moshood ‘F’, causing grievous harm, and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
However, she pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Suppol Benedict Aigbokhan, then asked the Court to give a date for hearing since she pleaded not guilty to enable the Police to prove that she actually committed the alleged offence.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Dosumu, granted her bail in the sum of N2m with two sureties in like sum, who must show evidence of means of livelihood and tax payment while addresses will be verified by the Court.
The matter was adjourned till 29th April, 2026, for mention while the defendant was remanded in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending when she will perfect her bail conditions.
