“I built my wealth myself”

The founder of Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd, Aisha Achimugu, has insisted that her wealth is self-made and not linked to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as she speaks amid ongoing legal issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

She made the clarification during an interview with Channels Television on Monday, stating that she has been in business since 2001 and comes from a respectable background, while denying allegations that political connections funded her lifestyle.

“In 2001, I launched my company. I come from a respectable household… Not at all. The MD of PPMCC was my late husband. During the work, i got to know him. Infact, I met him while constructing business at NNPC she said when asked if Sanwo-Olu or any of her powerful friends provided the money.

Achimugu also addressed her widely discussed 50th birthday celebration in Grenada, which was attended by several high-profile Nigerians, including Governor Sanwo-Olu, saying her connections came after her success in business and not the other way around.

She further disputed claims surrounding alleged $13 million linked to her company, insisting that only personal and family funds were found in her home.

The businesswoman is currently facing legal proceedings after being arrested in 2025 following an EFCC declaration, while her company continues to challenge court rulings related to alleged financial crimes.

Achimugu maintained that she is a legitimate entrepreneur focused on expanding her business portfolio, stressing that her relationships with powerful individuals are purely professional and social.
