Residents of Idah have petitioned Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and Deputy Governor Salifu Joel Oyibo over the stalled Idah township roads project, citing “untold hardship” caused by the contractor’s disappearance from site.
The petition, issued by the Ane-Igala Socio Cultural Development Association (AISCDA) and signed by its leader Chief Akwu Umar Goodman, described the state of the project as “deeply unsatisfactory” and accused the contractor of “gross incompetence.”
Flagged off by the governor in July 2025, the project has seen little progress nearly a year later, the group said.
“There is little to show for the time, resources, and taxpayers’ money invested so far,” AISCDA stated.
The petition also raised concerns that supervising engineers and technical officers may have “compromised standards and deviated from approved specifications.”
AISCDA is asking the Kogi State Government to terminate the contract for non-performance and either compel the contractor to return to site or re-award the project to a more competent firm.
The group further demanded an independent team of engineers to assess the work done.
Calling on Deputy Governor Oyibo, a native of the area, to take a more active supervisory role, the residents stressed that Idah, as the seat of the Ata Igala, deserves projects that “reflect dignity, quality, and timely execution.”
“We trust in your leadership, Your Excellency, and urge you to take swift and decisive action,” the petition concluded.
