Jimoh Ibrahim CFR (born February 24, 1967) is a Nigerian senator, lawyer, politician, businessman, and philanthropist who will serve as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to the United Nations beginning March 2026. From 2023 until 2025, he served as a senator for the Ondo South Senatorial District.

He is the chairman and CEO of Global Fleet Group, a Nigeria-based conglomerate with businesses and subsidiaries in neighbouring West African countries.

Jimoh Ibrahim was born in a vast and modest polygamous family in Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State. His father, Alhaji Yakubu Jimoh, worked as a mason, while his mother, Omofemiwa Jimoh, was a local fish merchant.

Ibrahim’s early life was marked by the challenges of a large family, yet his desire to excel was evident from a young age. He received his elementary education at Saint John’s School in Igbotako before attending the Federal School of Arts and Sciences in Ondo. These formative years shaped his work ethic and desire to climb beyond his circumstances.

He studied law at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria, where he earned his Bachelor of Laws degree. He went on to earn a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree from Obafemi Awolowo University.

He later attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he earned a Master of Laws (LLM) and a Master’s degree in International Taxation. Ibrahim became the first person to get a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from the University of Cambridge, graduating from Churchill College in July 2022.

Career

His investments include, among others, oil and gas distribution, hotels, resorts, airlines, banking, real estate, insurance, publishing, and investing.

In 2003, Jimoh Ibrahim ran unsuccessfully for governor of Ondo State on the All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP) ticket.

He has authored three novels. He also publishes Nigeria’s National Mirror newspaper.

Jimoh Ibrahim is married and practices polygamy, exactly like his father. He has two wives, Modupe Jimoh Ibrahim and Biodun Jimoh Ibrahim, with Modupe typically referred to as the primary spouse.

Jimoh Ibrahim is worth almost $680 million to over $1 billion, making him one of Nigeria’s richest men.

The majority of his money comes from Global Fleet Group, which has interests in banking, insurance, airlines, hotels, and media. He owns Energy Bank in Ghana, Oceanic Bank in São Tomé, NICON Insurance, Nigeria Reinsurance Corporation, and NICON Luxury and Meidan Hotels in Lekki.

He also runs the National Mirror newspaper. He also gets money from books, seminars, board positions, and consulting, as well as through his political ties.
