The Lagos State House of Assembly has removed its Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, ending his tenure which started on January 14, 2022.
TheTimes Nigeria reports that the decision was announced during plenary on Tuesday by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who said the change came after Onafeko completed his tenure.
Obasa explained that the move followed normal rules guiding legislative service and was done to keep the House running smoothly without disruption.
After announcing Onafeko’s exit, the Speaker named Adenike Osinowo as the new Clerk of the House. She has now taken over the role, which includes managing legislative records, guiding lawmakers on procedures, and handling the daily administrative work of the Assembly.
In another development, the House confirmed Latifat Ogbara as the Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, the body in charge of discipline and welfare of legislative staff.
Lawmakers also approved Remi Bello as a member of the same commission.
These appointments are expected to improve how the Assembly manages its workforce and carries out its legislative duties.
In other news, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has shifted from an initial governorship ambition and is reportedly set to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Agege Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
TheTimes Nigeria learnt that Obasa, who had nursed aspirations to succeed Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, intensified statewide political consultations by reviving the Mandate Group, a legacy political structure associated with President Bola Tinubu.
